Recently I have started
using "Tweeter" since I have nixed the whole FaceBook thing. After
several hackings and way to much drama from all the folks attached to my
account since their entire life flashed before my eyes daily... I
deleted the thing. Twitter seemed a much better idea because at least
this way folks are limited to 140 character and while they could blog it
and provide a link to their drama... I can simply decide whether to
see it or not. In looking around Twitter at the various folks that
follow Jesus etc... I am blown away by some of the things I read.
I am not nearly as rigid about language... just recently had a discussion on Bible Forums about that because someone took offense at my use of the term "screwed up" when I used it in a post. Shoot... I use it in the pulpit and have no hesitation to yell that I count all things crap (many don't even know what dung is). In one of the brief clips in the Media Section of this site where I was preaching in New York, you can see where I used the phrase "the proverbial crap hits the proverbial fan." Point... it doesn't freak me out when folks are a bit colorful with their language because those are expressions that make the point and they aren't foul. Nevertheless... come on! I see the "F" word tossed out all the time... "MF'er"... GD... etc. Seriously guys! Grab the "proverbial bar of soap and wash the mouth!"
I know that the language has changed and I know that folks use words today that we'd of got the snot whipped out of us for saying back when I was a kid. I remember getting smacked for saying "dang!" All that said though... we have to draw a line somewhere and then keep our feet behind that line. Ponder what I am saying at least... if you just can't accept what I am saying then don't just toss it aside. Stuff it in your back pocket until a bit later then chew on it some more. We must be an example and while many of the Prophets, Jesus as well, were radical in many ways, including colorful language... there was a line. Just keeping it real!
